This policy covers the Blobling app for Android and iOS and the pet page of a Blobling LED display at home.
In short: Blobling has no account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no in-app purchases. There is no Blobling server: your pet lives on your phone, or on your own LED display at home. The only thing that ever leaves your device is a rounded location, and only if you turn on the weather.
The controller within the meaning of Art. 4(7) GDPR is:
Michael Lamprecht
Ravelinstraße 7/1/7

Email: blobling@lampir.at
All of this stays in the app’s storage on your phone. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else. Deleting the app deletes it.
Notifications: the app asks whether it may show notifications. If you allow it, the pet on your phone calls with one when it needs you (never at night). The app sets it up on the phone itself when you leave it, and the phone’s own system shows it at that time; nothing is sent anywhere for it, and there is no push service. You turn notifications off in the phone’s settings.
The weather in the pet’s world is optional and off until you turn it on. When you do, the app asks your phone for its location (only while the app is open, through the system’s permission dialog), either once or each time it is opened, as you choose. The position is rounded to two decimals, about 1 km, and only this rounded position is stored and used. Forget the location in the app removes it.
To show the weather, the app sends the rounded position to
Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com) over an encrypted
connection, about every 15 minutes while it is open, and Open-Meteo returns
the current weather. No name, account or device ID is sent with it; like any
request on the internet, it carries your IP address. Open-Meteo’s own terms
and privacy policy apply to its servers: https://open-meteo.com/en/terms.
The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You withdraw it at any time by letting the app forget the location or by taking the location permission away in the phone’s settings.
If the system backup is turned on on your phone, the operating system also backs up the app’s storage, so your pet comes along to a new phone or a new installation. The backup is made by Google (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) as part of your Google account, or by Apple as part of your Apple Account; we have no access to it. It holds what section 2 lists.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in letting you keep your pet when you change phones. Whether and where anything is backed up is up to you in the phone’s settings. Privacy: https://policies.google.com/privacy, https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
If you connect the app to a Blobling display (a Raspberry Pi) at home, the
app talks to it directly over your home network, and the pet lives on the
display. To find it, the app asks the usual names of a display in your home
network (blobling.local and raspberrypi.local). If you choose to take the
pet on your phone along, the app sends it to the display, and if you take the
display’s pet back to your phone, the app loads it from there. The display is your own device; nothing goes through us. The
display itself asks Open-Meteo for the weather at the place you set on it,
and GitHub for new versions of its software. When it installs or updates its
software, it also downloads Node.js from NodeSource.
The app is downloaded from Google Play or the App Store. Google and Apple process data about the download under their own privacy policies (links in section 4); we receive only anonymous statistics from them, such as the number of downloads, and crash reports if you have allowed them on your phone.
This page is served by GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA), which records the IP addresses of its visitors for security. Privacy: https://docs.github.com/site-policy/privacy-policies/github-general-privacy-statement
Blobling is meant for everyone and collects no personal data, from children or anyone else.
We do not sell or share personal data. We make no automated decisions or profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
You have the right to access (Art. 15 GDPR), correction (Art. 16), deletion (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21). Since we hold no data about you, there is nothing on our side to look up or delete; the data on your phone is deleted with the app. For any question, write to the controller in section 1.
You also have the right to complain to the Austrian data protection authority: https://www.dsb.gv.at
If the app starts handling data differently, this page changes first. The current version is always at this address, with the date at the top.
